I taught a lesson to a group of women at church on New Year's Day. During the lesson, we talked about making this year, 2012, a year that we learn to overcome our fear- fear of change, of expressing ourselves, of being who we are. I thought I would make this printable available for anyone who might want to put it up as a reminder that we can overcome our fears, and embrace our potential. Enjoy!

Lindsey's Wedding

So I've teased you for a while with news and a few pics from Lindsey's lovely wedding. It was such a fun affair- bride and groom are Sounders season ticket owners, and their mad love for the Sounders had a striking influence on the decor of the wedding. Oh, and also POLKA DOTS. The bride can't get enough of those things.
Remarkably, I've yet to see a gymnasium so totally transformed from basketball court to elegant wedding venue. Well done, Anderson crew! Your HOURS of work were well used- it was fantastic. Thanks for letting me be a part of it. I loved creating hairpieces for Bride and flower girls...

Delivery update and a few things...

Hi Friends!!

It's no surprise that the cost of gas is astronomical right now, { I die a little bit every time I have to fill up my tank...} and delivering products isn't always convenient or efficient. For those of you in need of a Fancy little something-or-another, especially those of you who don't live in the Bonney Lake/Tapps/Sumner area, I will be shipping your orders to you, for a very nominal shipping fee (1-2 hairpieces is usually around 1.25). If you need something you don't see on etsy, simply convo me on etsy, or email me, or msg me on facebook and I can either create a custom etsy listing or simply send you a pay pal invoice and we can take care of it, lickety split!!

I don't have big plans for Summer yet- still working out the kinks. I enjoy that Summer is a slower time for Tallulah- until things pick up in August and go crazy until the end of the year. Expect an update soon on where you can find Tallulah Twinkletoes products this Summer!!

"Bliss" additions!

I love being "commissioned" to create something lovely for a special occasion!

This bride, Monica, wanted a sparkly hair comb to compliment her intricate up-do. The piece pictured here was my first wire-work piece- with crystals and freshwater pearls. I was happy with how it turned out and can't wait to experiment more with this medium! So fun and different! Colleen needed something "bling-y" and silver to coordinate with her prom dress. So pretty in her gorgeous hair!

...and Payton chose a classic black fascinator with feathers, tulle, a handmade rose, veiling and matching rose ring for her prom ensemble. Very elegant.

Thoughts on Creativity...

Okay, so something has been bugging me for a while. I need to sound off for a minute, so just indulge me, okay? Thanks Friends.

I love the creative process. I love being inspired by something I see or hear or feel- whether it's a home decorating magazine or blog, or a bouquet of flowers, a gorgeous swatch of ribbon or fabric or just a paint chip... it's all a part of my process. I love using the inspiration to make something that is my own.

Creative types of yesteryear would be highly envious of the easy access we have to a multitude of images - a veritable sensory overload- via the internet. Photographers post a bevy of photos- watermarked with their logos and signatures- all over the web. People have discovered the necessity of protecting their images with watermarks and trademarks, and though tutorials abound, artists have found ways of protecting their intellectual property from piracy and plagiarism.

This leads me to my point. The designs you see here on Tallulah Twinkletoes, "Bliss" by Tallulah Twinkletoes or any other subsidiary of TT (yes, there will be more!) are entirely mine. Certain details of my pieces (a particular type of handmade flower, for instance) may have been acquired from tutorials I have found here and there, but the composition of Tallulah products is the exclusive property of Tallulah Twinkletoes.

My Mom always told me that imitation is a form of flattery, but I always struggled with this idea. It is rather affirming to know that I have a good idea, that hosting a Soiree or having a cute display at a show or a particular vision for the growth of my business is worth imitating. HOWEVER...I'm not a fan of folks copying my ideas, whether they are in the form of pieces I create or the way I run my business. I have spent countless hours over the last three years working to organize and create something I'm incredibly proud of- something that is ME- the creative culmination of my own energy and inspiration. Though I'm somewhat flattered by the imitators (yes, more than one), please know that copying my ideas is not only unethical, it is a disservice to the creativity we should each strive to develop in ourselves and our art.

Hooray for SPRING!

SPRING! YAY! We have "enjoyed" a particularly wet, gray winter here in WA, and I'm not exaggerating when I say I'm ready for Spring. REALLY ready. Saturday was lovely here- sunny and nearly 70, and yet, we're back to the rain again. Oh please, PLEASE can we have a summer this year?
Ok, I digress..
So, because I've been so pro-Spring around here, I've been so inspired by its fantastic colors and sights - it's affecting all aspects of Tallulahville. Not just the headbands below, but my penchant for all things light and airy has rubbed off on my decorating as well (but that's for another day...) Who wouldn't be inspired by these colors??

I made a collection of these bows for a wedding this month- they were for four little flower girls- the bride and groom are Sounders ticket owners- they had navy/white polka dots and pops of apple green everywhere. VERY fun. (More on the bride in a bit...)

my very favorite color - AQUA! Cute for a birthday bow (would be SO cute with a matching tutu!)

I love this fantastic new ribbon- pink and cream stripes...

It was time to try my luck with some new wool felt flowers- I love the vintage look of this mum on this bonnet

What's New, Boogaloo?

So maybe you're asking (or maybe not... whatever) "Where are the Soirees, Lady? What's the deal?" Well, I'm afraid the soirees are going to have to take a backseat for a bit- there is much happening in Custom Tallulahland right now! I plan to post pictures as I complete each project- and there are a LOT of them- for instance, I'm making a swanky little hairpiece for a National Ballroom Dance competition, Spirit wear bows for BLHS, vintage rose corsages for flower girls at a vintage wedding, two bridal hairpieces, flower girl bows, and two cute flower girl tutu/corset ensembles! Phew! It's going to be a busy couple of months, but I can't WAIT to do more bridal/wedding party pieces! Yay! Pictures will follow soon- for reals!

So for now, I'm holding off on the soirees for a bit- hopefully I will host a "pre-Easter/Spring has sprung soiree" at my place later in April- but for now, I'm blissfully busy with custom orders- and that's all folks! :) I may be able to eek out a few little custom orders here and there- email/call/fb me to see what my week looks like. Meta-meta-mophosis

I remember when I was in second grade we learned about butterflies- and metamorphosis. We sang a song about it which went "Met-a-Met-a-Mor-pho-sis". I'd sing it for you if I could. Try not to be too disappointed that I can't. That song keeps coming to mind as I think about what I want to do with this blog. I think it's time to evolve and shake it up a bit...
So, I've been reading a lot of blogs lately. A. LOT. of blogs. I've always loved tutorials- I am a crafty girl- (I guess you probably know that) and I create a lot of different things here behind the scenes that I don't sell or write about- but I think I would like to change that. I would like to add a weekly tutorial, maybe a giveaway here and there, some fabulous links to things that inspire me, and, as always, post the latest happenings in Tallulahland.

Okay, it occurred to me that perhaps some of you might be a bit confused by the two Facebook badges you see on the right side of the page... SO, as many of you are aware, I have a Tallulah Twinkletoes account- the type you would "be-friend", where I post status updates on a fairly regular basis. In addition, I now have a business account- the type that you "like" and can see my etsy store, get discounts, etc. If you haven't found or "liked" my business account- check it out! And if you're not on FB yet, for heaven's sake, get it together, people! :)

In other news, my website should be up and running soon- just waiting on pictures (which is, of course, a significant thing to wait for)- can't wait for the accessibility that the website will afford all of my fabulous customers all over the place!

Tacoma Recap...

PHEW. The Dome show is over. And now it's recovery time- time to reclaim my house, get back in charge of school work, dance/soccer, and get back into the daily grind. All in all, the dome was successful- definitely a learning experience- difficult as it was, it's one I'm grateful to have had.

New shows are always interesting- I learn so much from each one. I've learned a much greater respect and appreciation for vendors who, like me, spend countless hours preparing a HANDMADE product. I've been reminded why I love doing shows- it's fantastic to meet new people- and so affirming to have folks really love the product you work so hard to produce. My fellow vendors were great- it was kind of like Summer Camp- we all said goodbye at the end, and hoped to see each other again... Funny.

I am so thankful for all the friends- old and new- who have supported me in this venture ("TallulahPhiles" :)- the painters, headband taper-ers, glue-ers, sewers, Cricut cutters, organizers, booth workers, babysitters, creative pricers (you know who you are! :) adult conversation providers, sounding boards, and many many more. I am so grateful for your friendship and love and am a better (and MUCH SANER) person because of each of you! Rewards are coming your way, promise!!

Now, a little eye candy-

This is baby Abby Mae. She's six weeks old. She wears Tallulah- even when she's not wearing anything else... :) She's gorgeous. She's one of my Tacoma Dome discoveries. I am a Shabby Chic girl at heart. I admit it. I totally own my shabby-ness. If it's old or it looks old- I want it. I have often said I was born in the wrong time, but that's for another day... I've wanted to learn to make lovely fabric roses for a while now- I've tinkered with it a bit- but I think I have it figured out. That being said, here are a few new fabulous HEADBANDS I've been playing around with...

I am SO excited about these. I want to wear them. All of them. Probably at the same time. This may prove problematic, since most of these are made for little (even TINY) heads... but still. They're gorgeous. And sorry if that's bragging. But, they are.

I mean, how lovely would this be in one of those darling naked newborn photos? Or attach the flowers to a comb for a fantastic wedding hairpiece? Yeah, I know. Don't those flowers look real?

Yep. I am officially consumed by preparation. The festival is FIVE days long. That is more than TWICE as long as the longest festival I've done. That means I need lots of STUFF. My little fingers are working as fast as they can to get ready- and my brain is continually processing how to make my booth look Christmassy, and how much stuff I need, who's gonna watch the Jonesies, and all that good stuff. I am SO excited to participate in a real, professional show- and SO overwhelmed... I know it will be fabulous.

First, HELLO, Tallulah Fans!!
What a busy month this has been for TT! First we had the wildly successful (and TERRIBLY FUN) Sumner Arts Festival (and the WEEEEEEEKS of preparation beforehand...), followed by custom orders and a couple of SUPER fun birthday parties (for my Trio), and finally my first BRIDAL order (pics to follow soon!). PHEW! What a way to start my super-busy season- and it's only the tip of the iceberg- but more on that later!

... I should say "FINALLY Summer...". Oh, the JOYS of being a Washingtonian... but anyhow...

So, as many of you know, SUMNER ARTS FESTIVAL is coming NEXT weekend- the 6th and 7th of August- and this is one of my very most favorite shows! It's a street festival, downtown Sumner- lots of vendors, fun free stuff for kids to do, yummy food... all good things- including ME of course (well, my STUFF, I should say- though I'll be there too). Here's a little preview to wet your whistle for the big show-

I would venture to say the the question I am most commonly asked about Tallulah Twinkletoes merchandise is...

I think your stuff is cute! So, uh, how do I buy it???

... a very good question indeed.

You may have noticed the defunct etsy link in the right margin. It is defunct for a reason. I have been pretty swamped the last nine months with establishing and maintaining inventory, doing custom orders and preparing for Soirees- and managing a household with five busy children... So I've taken a sabbatical from internet sales- for now. Traditionally, TT started as a venue for custom orders, so providing a wide variety of merchandise to list on a seller's website- and to maintain a good selection for Soirees seems a daunting task- one that I'm sure I will take on in time. But for now...

The best place to find the largest and best selection of Tallulah goodies is at a Soiree (private home party) or show (boutique or holiday festival). I try to host an Open-House-style soiree at my home on a quarterly basis that is for the general public. Or, if you'd prefer to earn free merchandise, consider hosting a Soiree of your own!

Alternately, if you have a specific need or a particular custom order in mind- I am always available to fill that via email - tallulahtwinkletoes@gmail.com . Simply email me a description of what you need or a picture of the outfit you need to match, etc. and I'd be glad to make and deliver/send it (for a nominal shipping charge) to you.

This is a bit of a departure for Tallulah. Up until now, all Tallulah Twinkletoes products have been interchangable (clips that attach to headbands or hats). These pieces are permanently affixed to their headband, and a little more grown up- Mommies, teens and girls can all wear them!

First of all, THANKS to all that participated in Candi's Soiree the other night in Auburn. It was a lot of FUN and I loved getting to meet and greet you all! Thanks for your support!

I am LOVING this fake Spring thing we seem to have going on in Washington. Truly, I can't think of another place that has anything on Springtime in WA. (Okay, I'm sure they exist, but go with me here...) I find spring to be a very inspirational time of year for my creativity. But who wouldn't be totally inspired by these colors?

Mmmmmm....

So Spring brings to mind BIRDS. Birds make me think of FEATHERS... and of course, feathers make me want to make really over-the-top, fabulous Tallulah BEANIES. (Really, it's a natural progression...) I learned that the yummy feathery hairpieces displayed below are called "fascinators". I kind of love them. I think I want to make them all the time. How fantastic would one of these flapper-y hairpieces (attached to the beanies) look for prom with a fabulous little black dress? Or for a night out on the town with your favorite doll-up outfit?! I know it!!!

You know when you find something you love to do (make) and you just keep coming up with idea after idea of how to make it better? You find excuses to do (make) more of it and think about it at all hours of the day? Yeeeeeah.... I kind of feel that way about Tallulah. It's great doing what you love, isn't it?

I had an idea for a gift for my super-cute neighbor who just had her second baby (another little girl). Of course, she named her Amelia (which is darling), and big sissy is Ava (also darling), so of COURSE I had to do something cute to acknowledge the unabashed cuteness of having two cute little A girls at the house... soooooo....

"Big A and Little a" Tallulah T's! Aren't they sweet?? And each has a button-centered ribbon flower as well.... I know... so fun!

Most years, the Jonesies have been very compliant about letting their crazy Mommy coordinate their Halloween costumes in some sort of theme... We've done Goldilocks and the Three bears, Insects, characters from Toy Story, and the Wizard of Oz. This year, however, I had a bit of a mutiny on my hands.

First of all, book-a-holic and aspiring Egyptologist Annie decided to be Cleopatra. Then Henry insisted on being a vampire, and likewise, Charlie wanted to be a skeleton. Sophie insisted on being a scary witch, though, being the daughter of a tutu/bowmaker I had to modify that request in my own special way... (yeah, I'm not sure what Annie's doing with the umbrella in this picture either...)

...so Soph became an adorable "Ballerina Witch"! First I made the tutu - a fantastic blend of green and black tulle with spikes of spooky spiderweb fabric and fancy ribbons. Then I decided to dust off the old sewing machine and I created a coordinating corset with a shirred back. Cu-ute! I was, of course, inspired by the way it turned out, so we added a super-Tallulah-ized witch hat and I whipped up a quick peasant shirt. Black fishnet tights and sparkly ballerina flats rounded out the outfit and I dare say, she was the cutest witch around!

I liked it SO much that I decided to modify it to make a costume for Maggie, my sweet Little Bo Peep. She had a tutu in two shades of pink with big satiny pink bustles on the hips. She wore a similar peasant shirt and corset and added pantaloons and a super-Tallulah mop hat with a giant pink and white bow with lamb button in the center. It was precious, if I do say so myself.

Needless to say, I'm pretty exhausted between finishing costumes and working on Christmas bows for Tallulah's upcoming bazaar weekends... Time to rejuvenate and get moving! Can't wait for the holidays!!!

Ahhh... I am feeling very nostalgic today! It's Homecoming season- and I can't help but reminisce about all the awkwardness, the hyper-posed photos, the gratuitous parent-induced"i-think-i'll-just-stand-next-to-you-for-this-one-because-your-dad-is-giving-me-the-eye-photo shoots, the hours spent curling, primping, polishing... Ah, youth...

I found these pics of Tallulah Friend and resident Jonesie babysitter, Miss Payton J. and her homecoming date, His Royal Highness, Dion. (Yes, he was BLHS Homecoming king...) Of course, it was necessary that said pics grace the viral pages of Tallulah's blog, as you can see that Miss Payton wore a fabulous Tallulah hydrangea in her hair, and looks completely, well, fabulous!

You may have noticed... I've been kinda busy lately- in a good way, of course. I am LOVING this Halloween season- it's like a personal challenge to my creativity. Fantastic.

I've been thinking of all the ways one could use a tutu in a costume- and here are a few I just came up with...

I was thrilled to discover how popular Tallulah Foofy Tutus are at the Sumner Arts Fest this year! I was equally amazed to realize that they aren't just for little Ladies either!

This is a little number I custom-created for a senior at Rogers High (for football games...) (I'm working on a few BLHS ones now too...)

This is Rachel. (Yes, her husband Levi is in a costume... Long story). She really likes tutus. And girly things. She really needs a daughter... Isn't she cute in her tutu and matching sleeve bows? :)

I call this one the "Chocolate Mint" tutu- brown and green, embellished with lots of ribbons and a cocoa brown gerbera daisy.

... and the piece de resistance... my personal favorite- the Poodle skirt tutu...

Of course, the possibilities are limitless- and prices are affordable! Tutus for an infant or child, depending upon embellishments, range from $20-25. Thank you thank you to all who attended the "Back to School Bash" at my house last week. I think I can assume that a good time was had by all that attended- bows and tutus were purchased, cobbler and apple crisp were consumed, and my appetite for creative outlet has been quenched (still finishing custom orders! Deliveries will be early this week...)!

This is Teri. She really likes bows.

Teri is what one might call, a "Tallulah Fan" or, a "bow aficionado".

Teri enlisted my help to create a fabulous, bow-centric ensemble for a recent getaway (though I am assured, it will receive more use than that). If you look closely, you might notice the GIANT bow on her floppy hat, which matches the one on her crazy bag, the many on her bow necklace and crazy flip-flops. (Not pictured are the socks with removable bows or the forth-coming unmentionables, all featuring, yes, you guessed it... a bow).

Teri is a bonafide Tallulah Girl, er... Lady. We love you, Teri. Thanks for representing.

(I think my next creation for Teri will feature a life-sized business card- or perhaps, a sandwich board... with bows, of course...)

Hellllooooo to all of the new friends joining us for the first time! I am so thrilled with the success I had this weekend at the Sumner Arts Festival- it was a LOT of fun and I met so many wonderful people- many of whom I hope to hear from here!

THANK YOU to everyone who visited, took a card, made a purchase or an order- I am so appreciative of your support! Your interest in my work keeps me motivated and excited about what I do!

I promise to update my etsy site soon- I know, I've slacked- I've been SO busy getting ready for the festival that a lot of other things have fallen by the wayside. Fortunately, I have prepared a LOT of merchandise so expect to see some of that on my site soon (and of course, you can see my etsy window here, on the right hand side of my blog).

I plan to finish the custom orders I took during the festival during the next week- and I'll be searching for great shows to do this Fall to showcase some fabulous CHRISTMAS merchandise! (If anyone has any great suggestions of good, well-attended bazaars, let me know, please!) Also, I will be hosting a home show here at my home in the next few weeks as well... More on that later...

Phew! I have been working my little nimble fingers off the last few months to get ready for the SUMNER ARTS FESTIVAL (my first big-girl show! Yay!) and it's almost here!

Friday and Saturday, August 7th and 8th, downtown Sumner (main street)... My booth will be down on the "Paper Muse" side of the street- down by "A Picket Fence"...

New stuff- all pre-made (not custom orders, like a home show)- Lots of CUTE Halloween bows, fall/back to school bows, tutus, new tutu dresses (yeah, you need to see those!), new flowers, beanies and on and on...

And you thought YOU were girly...

These are a pair of flip flops I made recently for a mom whose main stiplulation was that they be a. bright (she used the word "neon",though that was a tough commodity with the stock I have on hand...), and b. ridiculous, which you can clearly see I achieved without difficulty. The thing about making flip flops (which, by the way, I'm doing a LOT lately...) is that you can totally release your inhibitions and go a little nuts- the foofier the better! It's like making tutus for feet! Love it!

Yet another example- this a matching mom/daughter set...

... and it's an excuse for MOMs to get foofy too! 98% of the flops I've made thus far are for adults! (And the majority are for the Fourth of July! Fun! But watch that tulle with fireworks- yikes!)

So, I indulged in a new camera (one of my Black Friday bargains, thank you...), hence the pictures. Better bow pics are sure to follow.

These are my tutus- you'll recognize the models... couldn't resist...

Each is handmade with soft tulle- the good, Made in the USA kind that isn't itchy. Each has voluminous amounts of tulle, bursts of ribbon and other embellishments. Each comes with a matching bow (add headband or beanie if you like). These are adorable with a rhinestone tee, over jeans, little leggings or striped tights. Most are in the 20-25 dollar range, depending upon ribbon and embellishments.

BIG Thanks to all who supported the Grand Opening of TT yesterday! What a fun party! I am so excited to get to work on your orders, that I started a bunch of them last night! Thanks so much for your support- I hope you enjoy your bows as much as I enjoy making them!

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my new blog- (a short-term fix until my website is up and running) for the grand opening of my new business- "Tallulah Twinkletoes, Fine Accessories for Little Ladies".

I've decided that instead of hunting down cute bows, beanies, tutus and headbands for my three girls, I'd prefer to make them myself and custom match them to their outfits! Fun! I've always been a fan of little girl accessories, and I know many of you are too! Fortunately, I have a lot of cute (and affordable, by the way...) things to offer- and I'd like to show you some.

Keep in mind, I have LOTS of options available- (my ribbon stash is growing by obscene leaps and bounds) these pictures are intended to give you a rough idea of what I have...
